Discover the impressive volcanic island Ometepe and the enchanting colonial city of Granada with its beautiful surroundings! This package will take you to must-see destinations in Nicaragua like the remote escape Ometepe in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, where you can explore amazing fauna and flora kayaking on the Istian River and later taking a dip into the refreshing waters of Ojo de Agua.
You will visit the famous Laguna Charco Verde and the museum El Ceibo. Enjoy the historical center of the old colonial city of Granada during a walking tour, discover the secrets of the Mombacho Cloud Forest and breathe in the beauty of the charming islands of Las Isletas.
We will pick you up at your hotel in Managua and take you to San Jorge port located at the South of Lake Nicaragua. Alternatively, you can also be picked up in Liberia and we will take you over the border to Nicaragua to San Jorge.
For an extra charge, we can also pick you up and drop you off in San José. Alternatively, you can choose the option to fly to and from San Jose (daily flights are not available). Inquire with us for more information.
In San Jorge, you will take the ferry to the volcanic island of Ometepe. After about a one hour ferry drive, you will reach Ometepe’s main town Moyogalpa. From here, you will drive along a unique route, passing several villages and reaching Playa Santo Domingo where you can check in to your accommodation (Hotel Villa Paraíso *** or similar). No meals are included today.
After breakfast, you will depart to Rio Istian to discover its impressive fauna and flora. The river is a sanctuary for residents as well as migratory birds, and the area provides great views and a pristine natural setting. Here you will start a kayak tour through the river admiring impressive views of the dormant, but mighty, Maderas volcano and the even taller, active Concepción Volcano. Then, you will visit “Ojo de Agua”, a fresh pool of water in the middle of the island. Here you can relax and enjoy a dip in its crystal and refreshing waters. In the afternoon, you will return to the hotel. Meals included today: breakfast and lunch.
In the morning, you will visit the famous Laguna “Charco Verde” known for its dark green lake, lush surrounding vegetation, birdlife and howler monkeys. On the way to Moyogalpa you will stop at “El Ceibo” museum to learn about the history of the currency in Nicaragua and admire some ancient archaeological pieces, testimony to the strong indigenous activities in the past.
From San Jorge, you continue towards Granada, the oldest city in the Americas, founded in 1524 by the conqueror Francisco Hernández de Córdoba. You will discover and enjoy the historical centre of this colonial jewel during a walking tour. Accommodation: Hotel Best Western El Almirante *** or similar. Meals included today: breakfast.
After breakfast, you will drive to the Mombacho Cloud Forest Reserve, the defining feature of the Granada skyline. At the entrance, you will take an ecomovil that will take you to the visitor’s centre. Together with your guide, you will discover the secrets of the cloud forest. With some luck, you might experience great views of Granada and Las Isletas.
Around midday, you will drive back to Granada. After a short siesta, you will go by horse carriage to the Lake Nicaragua to embark on a boat tour through the charming and paradisiacal “Isletas”. Created thousands of years ago by an eruption of the Mombacho volcano, the little islands are home to numerous birds. In the late afternoon, you will arrive back in Granada. Breakfast and dinner are included.
After breakfast, you will be taken back to Managua, or, alternatively, to Liberia.
