Rio Toro - Arenal

Book This Trip

The Río Toro explodes with a series of over 45 continuous class III-IV rapids – you'll spend more than 2½ hours rafting through unexplored, tropical wilderness on a personalized, small-group tour. The exciting Río Toro is located only 1 hour from La Fortuna.

Experienced and first-time rafters love the Río Toro for full-day, class III-IV rafting. The Río Toro offers over 45-continuous rapids along more than 16 kilometers of deep-canyon gorges and waterfalls where we often see sloths, monkeys and tropical birds, such as toucans and the Montezuma Oropendula. We offer small, personalized and private tours with the only company who runs the Río Toro!

Imagine rafting through exciting, action-packed rapids with names like “morning coffee,” "the Danish Taco," “coco loco,” “the eraser,” and the famous “B-F-W!”

The Río Toro is the closest class III-IV river to La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano – only 1 hour away! Once at the river, our experienced guides will give you a thorough safety talk, get you set up with your helmet, life jacket and paddle and then you're off – you'll be paddling for more than 2½ hours. Along the way you wil stop for a nice, tropical fruit break and afterwards we will take you out for a typical Costa Rican “casado” lunch. You'll return to La Fortuna and the Arenal Area around 3:30-4:00pm.

Because we'll pick you up in San Jose and drop you at the end of the day in Arenal (or vice versa), this tour is also a great option for the day you want to transit to/from Arenal. Why spend a day in transit when you can spend it in adventure?!

Note: Rio Toro is a dam-released river and might sometimes be too low to do the Rafting. In these cases you will do the Rafting on the Sarapiqui river instead, which is class III-IV alike.
